Built by Queen Elizabeth’s Lord Chancellor as the biggest house in Elizabethan England, this impressive manor subsequently became the palace of James I and Charles I, and finally Charles’ prison after his defeat in The Civil War.
Now reduced to an eighth of its original size, it has lost little of its magnificence, with beautiful state rooms and Grade I gardens. Its fantastic decor and 2,000 acres of country gardens make it a stunning backdrop for filming and photography. Parking for over 200 cars is available on site.
