Style Feature: Retro Film Locations

Experience the timeless stylishness of a retro location on your next shoot!

We're seeing plenty of shoot locations rewind the clock and adopting interior styles of the past; and they look great on camera. The interior design trend is being coined as 'retro revival' and is gaining increasing popularity because of its sustainable appeal and timeless stylishness. The retro revival in interior design has witnessed a resurgence of mid-century modern aesthetics, vintage charm, and nostalgic elements that pay homage to design eras of the past. Embracing iconic styles from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, contemporary interiors are now infused with clean lines, geometric patterns, and bold colours that define mid-century modernism.

The original retro style originated from the 1960's, as post-war designers looked to create bold and bright styles to bring into the home, advocating hope. And since then, it's a style that has continued to bring vibrancy, joy and nostalgia into homes across the country, even accompanying their modern counterparts well. Retro locations characteristically play with colour, textures and shapes to create an eccentric home with sentiment.

Despite it's 1960's origin, we're seeing shoot locations adopt interior styles of all decades, from 1980's style bars to 1950's kitchens. These types of locations make excellent backdrops for film and TV. These settings effortlessly transport viewers to bygone eras, invoking a sense of nostalgia and storytelling depth so are ideal for period dramas. Whether capturing the elegance of mid-century modernism or the whimsy of 1970s kitsch, these backdrops evoke a sense of nostalgia that resonates with viewers. The carefully curated blend of vintage furniture, classic colour palettes, and unique design elements creates a rich visual tapestry that can enhance the narrative of a film or add character to a photograph.
