Style Feature: Inspired by the Movies

2023 is set to be another great year for Cinema! Whether you're a fan of Marvel, Horror, Comedy or Thrillers, there's something for you to look forward to this year.

We're anticipating seeing some familiar faces back on the big screen, like Indiana Jones, and looking forward to meeting some new characters like the 'Cocaine Bear!' Today, we thought we'd get you in the cinematic mood, so grab your popcorn and take a look below at some Amazing Space Locations inspired by three big new releases.

ASTEROID CITY - WES ANDERSON

This film, set in a fictional American desert town, is centred around a junior-stargazing convention that's dramatically interrupted by world-changing events. In classic Anderson-fashion, you can expect a colour-saturated spectacle with a playful, whimscial twist on the narrative as well as a star-studded cast to match. If you saw our previous blog on 'Wes-Anderson' inspired locations, then you'd know we have a few playful, whimsical locations of our own that reflect his cinematic style perfectly.

He is known for his incredible sound tracks, playful costumes, obssessive use of symmetry and his love for quirky colour palettes and vintage finesse. CH-7340, with its pastel tones and pristine symmetrical front garden could easily find it's way onto the big screen in one of his films. As could our gallery space in Kent, COM-10616 that's equally perfectly as uniform while still being an unusual seafront location.

BARBIE - GRETA GERWIG

The highly-anticipated new Barbie film is set to hit our screens in July and viewers can't wait to delve into the pink-saturated world of all things Barbie! Although we can expect a deeper narrative than just life in plastic. It's been hinted the plot is based around a doll that is expelled for not being perfect enough, who then finds herself in the real world and has to navigate the challenges of modern society.

Of course Barbie's world is full of pinks of all kinds; hot, neon, baby, pastel - you name it! Amazing Space have a variety of unique locations embracing this bold colour and the results are nothing short of fun and vibrant. We have two seperate car parks that have adopted hot pink entrance halls and stairwells that immediately make a backspace a central point for shoots. RES-11316 in Kent is a brilliant location house in itself, there are quirky corners and retro charm in each room, and particularly the bedroom looks like it's come straight out of Barbie's Dreamhouse!

OPPENHEIMER - CHRISTOPHER NOLAN

In this explosive biopic, we see Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer and follow his role in the creation of the atomic bomb. This gritty cinematic spectacle portrays Oppenheimer's moral struggle of developing a mass weapon of destruction against the scientific feat of creating it. The locations in this film are raw, industrial and contemporary to the period it's set, 1940's America.

In the trailer, amidst the dramatic, swirling flames, one of the central scenes is around the tower on which the atomic bomb sits. A similar site on our library is COM-10653 in Suffolk, a brilliant military based that could double as a scene from the Cold War or earlier, featuring border crossings, a central watch tower and several bomb bunkers. Its gritty, hostile vibe is the ideal setting for a militray or war based feature film that Christopher Nolan is famous for.
