Style Feature: Cottagecore Locations in London
'Cottagecore' is an aesthetic style that's picked up a lot of pace over the last couple of years. It romanticises and plays on ideas of simple, rural living; introducing the charms of the British countryside and pastoral living into your everday life, particularly through interior design. When you think of cottagecore interiorly, you can imagine natural materials, floral patterns, pastel tones, personal 'clutter' and generally, a gentle rustic vibe.
But this new aesthetic and interior style has moved out from the idyllic, rural setting it's based on, and has found its way more and more into suburban and London homes. It's a trend that has gained popularity particularly over the recent pandemic, with people feeling the need to create a personal sanctuary, and we're seeing many new locations adopt this style.
Today, we take a look at three Amazing Space locations within London, that have introduced this whimsical style into their homes for location filming. We've also added one bonus location in Berkshire, that is too good not to share when talking about this topic!
One aspect you can expect to see in a 'cottagecore style' property is wallpaper. Dainty, floral, nostalgic wallpaper seem to be the go-to prints when decorating a space. It's intended to feel calming and warm, and in the case of RES-11566, it's paried with beautiful printed headboards of complimentary colours to add layers and texture; another common cottagecore tip.
When you think of cottagecore, it's impossible to not think of pastel colourways and patterns. Again, these softer colour palettes are intended to soothe, calm and strip back to a simplistic way of living. Gentle colours, and adding touches of floral prints and lace are quitessentially cottagecore, and including items or patterns that makes you think of the sleepy English countryside means you're on the right track. This can be in the soft furnishings such as patterned curtains or armchairs, like in RES-11617. Woods and warm tones can also help to transform a space, helping to give that rustic, natural look.
Cottagecore is about the small details, as well as the shift in lifestyle. The smallest changes in paint colour, furniture or decor can really transform a space into the cosy, pastoral sanctuary you're looking for. For example, introducing vintage pieces or dusting off hand-me-down items are quick and easy ways to embrace what cottagecore is all about. It's intended to fill your space with personable, long-lasting items; or clutter with meaning behind it. RES-11206 does this perfectly in the dining space particularly. By adding wooden framed photos of flowers and fruit trees, coupled with the rustic dining chairs and layerd cushions, it instantly feels like a room you'd expect to find in a countryside cottage, but instead wer'e in South West London!
RES-9451- Berkshire
We've looked at three London locations embracing cottoagecore, but we had to share this incredible location in Berkshire as well! This beautiful family home perfectly encompasses modern cottagecore interior style; it's brimming with texture, colour, pattern, vintage decor, contemporary artwork that seems to effortlessly come together to create a brilliant shoot location. Each room is different, yet still in keeping with the cottagecore style and is a perfect example of how this trend allows you to make a space your own. RES-9451 has recently hosted a photoshoot for Joules, a brand that's inspired by the British countryside that's made to feel practical yet stylish. And what better location to reflect this brand, then a property that is built around the same inspirations.
